Whitney W. Claytor is a costume designer, technician, and craftsperson. They graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the University of Southern Indiana, and a Masters of Fine Arts from California State University Fullerton. Whitney has worked in several different regional theatres, doing shows for all ages. They particularly enjoyed their time working in theatre for young audiences at StageOne Family Theatre in Louisville, KY, which led them to seek out employment as a teacher. Whitney now teaches costumes and theatrical prosthetics at a high school level, which also allows them to design shows typically meant for adults through the lens of their students’ experiences.
Over the course of their career, Whitney has had the pleasure of designing for many different theatres, including proscenium, thrust, and arena, and has trained many technicians in how to sew, both by hand and by machine. They also frequently train wardrobe crews to do quick changes properly and to properly maintain and deodorize costumes. They are happy to have found employment that marries their love of working with kids and their love of professional theatre.
